They are a creation that came out of too many desires and a bunch of my favorite ingredients. Imagine the earthy tones of premium matcha green tea, paired with the creamy richness of hazelnut chocolate—each bite is a journey through layers of sophisticated flavor and texture.

So whether you’re looking to add a special touch to your dessert menu, or simply enjoy a luxurious treat with your afternoon coffee, these Hazelnut Chocolate Matcha Latte Cups promise a taste that’s as enjoyable to make as it is to savor.

Ingredients for Hazelnut Chocolate Matcha Latte Cups

  • Vegan White Chocolate: Provides a creamy, rich base for the chocolates, offering a sweet contrast to the matcha’s bitterness. If vegan white chocolate is unavailable, any high-quality white chocolate can be substituted for similar results.
  • Coconut Oil: Helps to smooth out the chocolate mixture, making it easier to work with while enhancing the creamy texture.
  • Matcha Powder: Adds the signature green tea flavor and a boost of antioxidants. For a lighter matcha taste, adjust the quantity or use a lower-grade matcha.
  • Hazelnut Cacao Spread: Fills each chocolate cup with a lush, nutty layer that mimics the flavor of popular spreads like Nutella but in a healthier, all-natural form. Almond butter, cacao butter or any other nut butter can be used as a substitute if desired.
  • Cacao Nibs: Provide a crunchy texture and a pure, bitter chocolate flavor to the tops of the chocolates, complementing the sweetness within. Optional, but recommended for texture lovers.

How to Make These Hazelnut Chocolate Matcha Latte Cups

Begin by preparing your matcha chocolate. Melt the vegan white chocolate with coconut oil in a bowl, stirring until you achieve a smooth consistency. Then, whisk in the matcha powder until fully integrated and smooth. Next, take this vibrant green chocolate mixture and carefully pour a teaspoon into each of your chosen molds (I used these ones), swirling it around to ensure the sides are well coated. Place the molds in the freezer for a few minutes to set the chocolate base.

Once the bases are firm, it’s time to fill and seal your chocolate cups. Spoon a generous amount of hazelnut cacao spread into each cup, filling them just enough to leave room for a final layer of matcha chocolate. Pour the remaining matcha chocolate over the hazelnut spread to seal the cups. Sprinkle cacao nibs on top for an extra crunch and a touch of visual flair. Return the molds to the freezer and allow the chocolates to set completely. Once totally solid, pop the chocolates out of the molds and transfer them to an airtight container. Store them in the fridge or freezer to keep them fresh and ready to enjoy whenever the craving strikes!

So What is Matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. Renowned for its vibrant color and multitude of health benefits, matcha contains antioxidants and provides a unique, earthy flavor that’s become incredibly popular in various beverages and desserts worldwide.

Do Matcha and Chocolate Pair Well?

Let this recipe convince you! The slightly bitter flavor of matcha perfectly complements the sweetness of white chocolate, creating a sophisticated flavor profile. When paired with the nuttiness of hazelnut and the richness of cacao, matcha brings a refreshing balance to these indulgent treats, making each bite a mix of deliciousness!

Looking for Other Ways to Use Matcha?

Matcha is incredibly versatile and can be used in a variety of recipes beyond drinks and desserts. Try incorporating matcha into smoothies for an antioxidant boost, sprinkle it over oatmeal for a morning pick-me-up, or blend it into your baking recipes for a colorful and healthy twist.

Notes

** I used silicone molds that are shaped perfectly for Reese’s inspired chocolates. These are the ones I used, click here
** This recipe requires hazelnut chocolate spread. I always opt for natural versions of my favorite items. I used ARTISANA hazelnut cacao spread. It tastes just like Nutella! But it’s all natural, organic, no palm oil and full of vitamins from natural cacao.
** The cacao nibs on top are optional. They add not only a fun crunch but a natural chocolate bitterness. So if you’re not a fan please simply omit from the recipe.
