My Easy Citrus Chia Jam is more than just a recipe; it's a celebration of simplicity, nutrition, and the joy of homemade jams! It's proof that sometimes, the best flavors come from just a handful of ingredients and a little love. So, grab your blender, and let's bring a burst of citrusy sunshine to your kitchen. Here's to spreading a little joy, one jar of jam at a time!

Easy Citrus Chia Jam: A Homemade Delight

You all loved my raspberry chia jam so much that I knew I had to bring a new flavor your way! Today we’re stirring up a little jar of sunshine with this Easy Citrus Chia Jam. Transforming simple ingredients into a bright and zesty spread that’s about to become a staple in your fridge. With just three ingredients and twenty minutes, you’ll say goodbye to store-bought jams and hello to homemade goodness.

Ingredients You’ll Need for This Easy Chia Jam

  • Sumo Citrus or Oranges: The star of the show, bringing a fragrant zest and natural sweetness to the jam.
  • White Chia Seeds: They thicken the jam while adding a nutritional punch and keeping the color light and appealing.
  • Maple Syrup: Adds natural sweetness to the jam, making it vegan-friendly and refined sugar-free.

How to Make This Easy Citrus Chia Jam

Whipping up a batch of this Easy Citrus Chia Jam is like bottling sunshine – simple, sweet, and utterly satisfying. First, let’s get zesty with the zest of half a sumo citrus (or whatever citrus you choose to use), unleashing its vibrant essence into our mix. Then, it’s time to blend those juicy citrus fruits into a velvety puree that’s bursting with vitamin C goodness and sunshine vibes. Next, add the goods to a saucepan with just a touch of maple syrup, simmering it down to a thick consistency.

Here’s where the magic happens – with a sprinkle of chia seeds, our jam starts to transform. These tiny but mighty seeds are not just about their omega-3s and fibers; they’re our natural thickeners, turning our citrus blend into a spoonable treasure as it cools. And the grand finale? Scooping this golden goodness into jars, and closing until ready to enjoy. If you keep the jam in the fridge, it should stay just fine for at least two weeks.

What is Chia Jam?

Chia jam is a healthier, simpler alternative to traditional jam, using the gelling power of chia seeds to achieve a spreadable consistency without the need for pectin or excessive sugar. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy your favorite fruits with an added nutritional boost from the chia seeds, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and protein. If you like this recipe and are interested in trying another chia jam I highly recommend my raspberry chia jam.

How to Use This Chia Jam

The beauty of this Citrus Chia Jam is its versatility. Spread it over a slice of toast, dollop it onto yogurt or parfaits, use it as a sweet dip for crackers, or as a fruity twist in sandwiches. It’s also decadent in desserts, like my white chocolate citrus cups, adding a fresh, zesty flavor that complements the sweetness.

Bright, zesty, and SO fragrant, my little jam packs allll the punches. It’s delicious on toast, parfaits, dipped with crackers, sandwiches and sooo decadent in my white chocolate citrus cups! So let’s grab some SUMO citrus and have some fun in the kitchen!
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Course Breakfast, Snack, Spread
Cuisine American, Vegan
Servings 3 cups

Equipment

  • stove, blender, glass jars

Ingredients

  • 5 sumo citrus OR oranges of choice
  • tbsp chia seeds preferably white
  • 3-4 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  • Begin by zesting 1/2 an sumo citrus , then peeling all sumos, including the zested one. **try to remove as much pith as possible
  • Then add the sumos and the zest to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
  • Add the citrus mixture to a saucepan. On a medium heat, bring it to the boil.
  • Reduce the heat, add the maple syrup and stir the mixture as it simmers, until it begins to thicken. **adjust sweetness to your taste.
  • Add the chia seeds. Turn off the heat and continue to stir for a few more minutes.
  • Remove the mixture from the heat and allow to cool in the pan.
  • The mixture will continue to thicken as it cools. Once cool. Add your beautiful citrus jam to air tight jars and store in the fridge. The jam will last for two weeks and a months if you freeze.

Notes

**I used sumo citrus, specifically for the fragrant zest and sweetness. You can ABSOLUTELY use oranges or mandarins, just adjust the amount times 2 if using mandarins and adjust sweetness to your liking if you use tart oranges.
**I prefer white chia in this recipe. Aesthetically it looks divine. But black chia ABSOLUTELY works, just be aware the color of your jam will be darker
** I used maple syrup. Making this recipe 100% vegan. But feel free to sub for honey or sweetener of choice.
