Ingredients for Mango Jam

  • Frozen Mango Chunks: Mango is the star of this recipe, bringing a sweet, tropical flavor that’s simply irresistible. Using frozen mango chunks makes this recipe accessible all year round and ensures a consistent sweetness. You can also use fresh mango when it’s available.
  • White Chia Seeds: These tiny seeds are power-packed with omega-3 fatty acids and fiber. They help thicken the jam naturally while adding a slight crunch that enhances the jam’s texture. White chia seeds also keep the jam’s color bright and appealing. This ingredient keeps the recipe pectin free!
  • Maple Syrup (optional): For those who prefer their jam a bit sweeter, maple syrup is a fantastic, natural sweetener that complements the mango’s flavor without overpowering it. Adjust the sweetness to your liking, or even skip it entirely if you prefer the natural sweetness of the mango.
  • Juice of Half a Lemon: Lemon juice not only adds a fresh zing to the jam but also helps preserve it. The acidity balances the sweetness of the mangoes and enhances their tropical flavor.

How to Make Mango Jam

Begin making your mango jam by placing frozen mango chunks in a saucepan over high heat. Stir the mango continuously as it begins to soften and break down. Once the mangoes start to lose their form, reduce the heat and use a masher to achieve your desired consistency. Continue simmering the mashed mango until it has reduced slightly, which will intensify the jam’s flavors.

Next, start the jam process by stirring in lemon juice and chia seeds, adding maple syrup for extra sweetness if desired. Be sure to taste the mixture before sweetening to ensure it suits your preference. Once combined, remove the pan from the heat to allow the jam to cool and thicken further. After cooling, spoon the thickened jam into airtight glass jars and refrigerate to preserve its freshness and delightful tropical flavors.

Is Mango Good for Making Jam?

Absolutely! Mangoes are perfect for jam-making due to their natural sweetness and vibrant flavor. When cooked down, they create a thick, lush texture that’s ideal for spreading. Mangoes are also rich in vitamins and antioxidants, making them not only delicious but also nutritious. If you’re looking for a fruit that can elevate your jam to the next level, mangoes are the way to go!

** I created this recipe with frozen mango. You can sub for fresh mango but you may need to add a little extra chia seeds as the texture of frozen isn’t the same as fresh.
** I used white chia seeds for this recipe. Aesthetically it gives the jam a beautiful bright color. You can however use black chia seeds. They give the same consistency and nutritional content. Just be aware your jam will have a darker appearance.
** I used lemon in this batch but I’ve also created this jam with fresh lime and this delicious!!! So go with your heart on lemon or lime 🙂
