What You Will Need to Make this Breakfast Bowl

  • FROZEN BANANA: I prepare frozen bananas each week as I make so many smoothies. It’s a fantastic idea for bananas that are getting too ripe to eat. Just peel and chop into small pieces and place in a zip lock bag and freeze.
  • FROZEN MANGO: Creates such a wonderful base for a smoothie bowl. It provides thickness and sweetness. I always have a bag in my freezer!
  • FROZEN MIXED BERRIES: Chock full of antioxidants and essential vitamins and minerals. Berries are an amazing smoothie addition. Helping you hit your fiber goals for the day and boosting immunity! Any berry mix will work great!
  • BLUE SPIRULINA POWDER: Natures super color! This blue algae powder is just beyond mesmerizing. Instant vibrant color and full of amazing vitamins and minerals. Making it healthy and so fun! Regular spirulina can have quite a pungent sea taste. Blue spirulina is much milder.
  • GROUND FLAX: Fiber is so important for our daily health. Adding flax is a great way to boost your daily fiber intake and improve digestive health. It’s also great for thickening smoothie bowls!
  • PLANT MILK: Use your milk of choice. I chose cashew for this one but any plant milk with be great.
  • GRANOLA: I used a blueberry granola I had in the cupboard but any granola you have on hand will be awesome on here!
  • PUMPKIN SEEDS: Adding just a lil extra healthy crunch with protein and essential healthy fats and iron. Seeds are a great choice of topping. Feel free to add as little or as much as you like!
  • BLUE SPIRULINA COCONUT: As mentioned I loveeeee blue spirulina. I often add it to things to boost color with the added health benefits. I create batches of blue spirulina with coconut and store in my cupboard to use for smoothie bowls, and  oats. **Mix 1 tsp blue spirulina with 1 cup shredded coconut. And store in an airtight container.
  • CHIA SEEDS: I added chia for a lil protein boost. They help keep you satisfied for longer and provide those much needed omega 3 fatty acids.

How to Make This Berry Swirl Smoothie Breakfast Bowl:

  1. Blend the Base: Start by blending the banana, mango, milk, and ground flax until you achieve a smooth consistency. This creamy mixture serves as the foundation of your smoothie bowl, rich in fiber and essential nutrients.

  2. Create the Blue Spirulina Mixture: Take a quarter of the smooth base and mix it with blue spirulina in a separate bowl. This step infuses part of your smoothie with a vibrant blue color and additional health benefits. Freeze this portion briefly to maintain its color when swirled.

  3. Berry Blend: Add the frozen mixed berries to the remaining mixture in the blender and blend again. This introduces a burst of berry flavors and antioxidants, creating a rich, tangy contrast to the sweet and creamy base.

  4. Swirl and Serve: Pour both the berry mixture and the spirulina-infused mixture into your serving bowl. Use a spoon or a skewer to gently swirl them together, creating a stunning visual effect. Top with your chosen granola, the blue spirulina-dusted coconut, pumpkin seeds, and a sprinkle of chia seeds for a crunchy, nutritious finish.
