Spooky Halloween Smoothie Ingredients

  • Frozen Bananas: Bananas are the base of many smoothies for a good reason; they add natural sweetness and create a smooth, creamy texture without the need for added sugar or dairy. Frozen bananas also make the smoothie cold and thick, giving it that satisfying, ice-cream-like consistency we all love. Plus, they’re loaded with potassium and vitamins!
  • Frozen Mango: Bring a refreshing tropical flavor to the smoothie, balancing the sweetness of the banana and adding a burst of vitamin C. Mango also adds to the creamy texture while giving the smoothie a bright, fruity taste. Its natural sweetness means you won’t need any additional sweeteners.
  • Oats: A great source of fiber for any time of the day. Adding oats also helps to create a thicker, creamier texture, making the smoothie feel more like a meal.
  • Oat Milk: Oat milk keeps the smoothie dairy-free while adding extra creaminess. Its mild flavor complements the other ingredients without overpowering them. Oat milk is also a good source of vitamins and minerals, such as calcium and vitamin D, making it a great plant-based option. Use any milk you’d like for this recipe.
  • Ice: Essential for making this smoothie extra cold and refreshing.
  • Activated Charcoal: The star ingredient for creating that spooky black color! Activated charcoal is a natural detoxifier, known for helping the body remove toxins. While it’s mostly included for its visual effect in this Halloween smoothie, it also provides health benefits. Just be sure to use food-grade, all-natural activated charcoal. You can use an all-natural black food dye instead.
  • Vegan Yogurt: Vegan yogurt is used with pumpkin puree to create a fun, spooky swirl inside the glass. It adds a tangy flavor and extra creaminess, making the smoothie richer. Vegan yogurt also brings some gut-friendly probiotics to the mix, helping with digestion and supporting a healthy gut. Use any yogurt you have on hand!
  • Pumpkin Puree: What’s Halloween without a little pumpkin? Pumpkin puree adds a touch of fall flavor to the swirl and brings beautiful orange color to the design. Pumpkin is also loaded with fiber, vitamin A, and antioxidants, making it a nutrient-rich addition to this fun smoothie.

How to Make This Spooky Smoothie

Making this spooky Halloween smoothie is as simple as it is fun! Follow these steps for a smoothie that’s sure to be a hit:

Prepare the swirl

In a small bowl, mix together 1 1/2 tbsp vegan yogurt and 1 tbsp pumpkin puree until combined.

Create a spooky design

Using the back of a spoon, swipe the yogurt mixture inside the serving glass, creating a spooky pattern from the bottom up. Set the glass aside.

Blend the smoothie

Add frozen bananas, frozen mango, oats, oat milk, activated charcoal (or food dye), and ice to a blender. Blend until smooth and creamy.

Pour and enjoy

Pour the black smoothie into your prepared glass, letting the yogurt swirl and create a spooky effect.

Tips for the Cups Two Tones

Creating the perfect spooky swirl is easier than it looks! Here are a few tips to get it just right:

  • Chill the Glass: Try chilling your serving glass in the freezer for a few minutes before adding the yogurt mixture. This will help the swirl hold its shape better.
  • Experiment with Swirls: You can use a toothpick or the back of a spoon to create different patterns, from spiderwebs to spooky faces.
  • Use All-Natural Dyes: If you prefer to skip the activated charcoal, you can use all-natural food coloring to achieve the same eerie effect.
