Brazilian lemonade has become a beloved summer drink for a reason. It’s creamy, citrusy, refreshing, and has the perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors. However, the traditional version is often made with sweetened condensed milk and a generous amount of added sugar.
This healthy Brazilian lemonade recipe gives the classic drink a lighter, more nourishing twist while keeping everything you love about the original. Instead of refined sugar and condensed milk, this version uses creamy coconut milk, hydrating coconut water, fresh limes, and pure maple syrup for natural sweetness.
The result is a bright, tropical drink that feels indulgent while still being made with simple, wholesome ingredients. It’s the perfect refreshing beverage for warm summer days, backyard gatherings, picnics, or whenever you’re craving something citrusy and delicious.
Despite its name, Brazilian lemonade is traditionally made with limes rather than lemons. Known as limonada suíça in Brazil, this popular drink is made by blending fresh limes with water and sweetener to create a creamy, frothy citrus beverage.
The signature creaminess comes from blending the whole lime, including the peel, which gives the drink its bold citrus flavor. Traditional recipes often include sweetened condensed milk, creating a rich and sweet finish.
This healthier version keeps the refreshing lime flavor and creamy texture while swapping in lighter ingredients that are naturally sweetened and dairy-free.
Refined sugar-free: This recipe uses pure maple syrup instead of refined sugar for a naturally sweetened drink.
Creamy and refreshing: Coconut milk creates a smooth, creamy texture while coconut water keeps it light and hydrating.
Made with simple ingredients: Fresh limes and pantry-friendly ingredients come together for a delicious summer drink.
Dairy-free: A great option for anyone looking for a dairy-free or plant-based beverage.
Perfect for summer: This refreshing citrus drink is ideal for hot days, celebrations, and relaxing by the pool.
Fresh Limes
Fresh limes are the star of this recipe, bringing the bright citrus flavor that makes Brazilian lemonade so unique. Blending the lime creates a deeper, more vibrant flavor compared to simply squeezing lime juice.
Coconut Water
Coconut water adds natural sweetness and a refreshing tropical flavor while helping make this drink extra hydrating. It’s the perfect addition for a light summer beverage.
Coconut Milk
Coconut milk replaces the traditional sweetened condensed milk, creating a creamy texture while keeping this recipe dairy-free. It adds a subtle tropical flavor that pairs beautifully with fresh lime.
Pure Maple Syrup
Pure maple syrup provides natural sweetness without using refined sugar. Its caramel-like notes balance the tartness of the limes and create a perfectly refreshing drink.
Making this healthier Brazilian lemonade is quick and easy!
Start by washing your limes thoroughly, then cut them into smaller pieces. Add the limes, coconut water, coconut milk, maple syrup, and ice to a blender.
Blend briefly until the mixture is combined and creamy. Be careful not to over-blend, as blending the lime peel for too long can create a bitter flavor.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove any larger pieces, then serve immediately over ice.
For an extra refreshing touch, garnish with fresh lime slices and a sprig of mint.
Don’t over-blend the limes: The lime peel adds incredible flavor, but too much blending can make the drink bitter.
Adjust sweetness to taste: Depending on the size and tartness of your limes, you may want to add a little more or less maple syrup.
Serve fresh: Brazilian lemonade is best enjoyed soon after making it for the brightest flavor and creamiest texture.
Make it extra special: Serve over plenty of ice with lime slices or fresh mint for a beautiful summer presentation.
Make It Extra Tropical
Add fresh pineapple or mango for an even more tropical flavor.
Turn It Into A Mocktail
Top with sparkling water for a bubbly, refreshing summer mocktail.
Make It Creamier
Add a little extra coconut milk for a richer, dessert-like drink.

Do you use coconut milk in the tin (like what’s used for cooking) or coconut milk that’s used as a dairy replacement beverage?
Hey Adele, you use coconut milk from the can. For an extra creamy final product you can use coconut cream OR for an even lighter version she can use the coconut milk beverage. I hope this helps!
