Why you’ll love these Strawberry Watermelon ice cubes

If you’ve ever wished your ice cubes actually added flavour instead of just watering your drink down, this is your answer.

These fruit ice cubes:

  • add natural sweetness as they melt
  • make sparkling water feel like a mocktail
  • look stunning in a glass (hello, Pinterest moment)
  • are made with just real fruit

They’re one of those small kitchen upgrades that completely change how you think about hydration drinks in summer.

 Ingredients

  • Fresh watermelon
  • Fresh strawberries
  • Optional: splash of lemon juice (for brightness)

That’s it—no added sugar needed unless your fruit needs it.

How to make watermelon strawberry ice cubes

  1. Blend fresh watermelon until smooth.
  2. Blend strawberries separately or together for a marbled effect.
  3. Pour into ice cube trays (you can layer for a swirled look or keep separate).
  4. Freeze for at least 4–6 hours or overnight until solid.

Tip: For a more aesthetic cube, lightly mash some strawberry pieces into the watermelon before freezing so you get texture and colour variation.

How to turn them into a sparkling mocktail

Once frozen:

  1. Add a few watermelon strawberry ice cubes to a glass.
  2. Pour over cold sparkling water.
  3. Watch the drink slowly turn pink as the cubes melt.
  4. Optional: add mint or a squeeze of lemon for extra freshness.

You can also turn this into a cocktail base by adding vodka or gin—but it’s just as refreshing as a non-alcoholic drink

 Tips for best results

  • Use ripe fruit for the best natural sweetness
  • Freeze in silicone trays for easy release
  • Don’t overfill trays if you want clearer cube separation
  • Mix watermelon and strawberry layers for a “ombre” effect

Why this works so well for hydration

Watermelon is naturally hydrating and full of water content, while strawberries add antioxidants and a light sweetness. When frozen into cubes, they slowly infuse your drink instead of diluting it like regular ice, making this a more enjoyable way to stay hydrated in warmer months.
