Cracker candy, in this recipe also known as Valentine’s Crack, is a simple yet addictive treat made by layering crackers (or your cracker of choice) with homemade toffee, baking it to golden perfection, and topping it with chocolate chips, white chocolate or whatever your heart desires. There are so many different versions of cracker candy and this one has love written all over it! Make this crunchy, caramelized candy with the perfect balance of salty and sweet.
To make this easy cracker candy, you’ll need:
Making cracker candy is easy, and the results are absolutely delicious! Here’s how:
Prepare your pan and cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil, then lay the crackers or sourdough rye thins in a single layer on the pan. Set aside.
In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat until bubbling and smooth, about 10 minutes. Spread the caramel evenly over the cracker base using a spatula, then bake for 10-15 minutes.
While the caramel layer bakes, melt the white chocolate chips with coconut oil and melt the pink candy melts in separate bowls. Use a double boiler or microwave in short intervals, stirring in between.
Pour the melted white chocolate over the caramel base and smooth it out. Add small circles of strawberry jam and pink candy melts, then swirl them using a chopstick or butter knife to create a marble effect. Sprinkle with Valentine’s sprinkles and marshmallow hearts for an extra festive touch.
Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until set. Now, it’s time to CRACK into this irresistible treat! Break the crack into whatever shapes you’d like, you can make them small or large shards!
The best part about cracker candy is how easy it is to customize! Here are a few fun variations:
If your cracker candy turns out too chewy, it may not have baked long enough. The brown sugar and butter need enough time to fully caramelize into a crisp toffee. Try baking for an extra 2-3 minutes, but be careful not to burn it!
Once fully set, store your cracker candy in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. If you prefer a firmer texture, store it in the fridge for a delicious chilled crunch.
