Asian Jackfruit Bowl

Hey there, flavor enthusiasts! Brace yourselves for your taste buds to be blown away!

I present to you my Sweet Spicy Asian Jackfruit Bowl, a collection of vibrant ingredients that’ll take you on a journey through the taste realms of sweet, spicy, and utterly delightful. Get ready to dive into a world of Asian-inspired goodness!

What you will need:

  • CANNED JACKFRUIT: I use canned jackfruit for savory dishes as it isn’t as sweet as fresh. And has the most incredible meaty texture! It is definitely worth a try! Such a fun meat substitute! 
  • MANGO: is just soooo amazing in Asian inspired dishes and savory dishes as a whole. The sweet tropical flavor balanced out the spicy and savory flavors incredibly!!
  • AVOCADO: creamy and full of healthy fats. Avocado is a must in your diet. And is the perfect counterbalance to the intense spicy flavors. Provides a delicious relief! I created a beautiful avocado rose. Please be sure to check out my tutorial. They are truly so simple and such a show stopper! 
  • CILANTRO: if you aren’t a cilantro lover like me you can absolutely sub for Thai basil. But the cilantro is soooo amazing with the kick of spice and ginger and garlic! I highly recommend trying it! 
  • JASMINE RICE: you could use any rice of choice. But the sticky jasmine rice that is used so often in Asian cuisine is just the perfect texture 
  • EDAMAME: these wonder beans are young soybeans and are truly a marvel. Such a great source of plant protein which is essential as the ‘meat’ component of jackfruit holds very little protein content. Edamame adds texture, a nutty flavor and that protein we all need in every meal! I bought mine frozen and shelled. So all you need to do is defrost under warm water and they are ready to go! 
  • CUCUMBER: the crunchy, fresh bite of cooling cucumber is just magic you guys. With such punchy flavors it keeps this dish fresh and bright! 
  • SOY SAUCE: such an Asian staple for a reason. I used low sodium soy. 
  • TAMARI: another soy addition that adds deeper flavors than regular soy 
  • RICE VINEGAR: the sour is essential for balancing the salty sweet and spicy in this marinade. Rice vinegar is a must-have pantry staple. 🙂  

Rice Radiance

Let’s kickstart this culinary journey with the heart of any good Asian bowl – jasmine rice! Cook it up according to package instructions, and watch it transform into a fluffy, sticky canvas ready to soak up all the marvelous flavors!

Veggie Vibrance

While our rice is simmering to perfection, let’s prep our veggies. Dice up the fresh mango, slice the cucumber into delightful rounds, and chop that cilantro into fragrant confetti. These colorful bursts will add a vibrant crunch to every bite!

Jackfruit Magic

Now, let’s give our jackfruit a makeover! In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, tamari, rice vinegar, coconut sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, sambal oelek, and grated ginger. This marinade is the secret sauce that’ll elevate the jackfruit to a whole new level of savory perfection!

Marvelous Jackfruit Transformation

Drain and pull apart the jackfruit, letting it soak up every drop of that luscious marinade. Then, toss it into a hot pan and let the sizzle begin! Watch as the flavors meld and caramelize, creating a tantalizing medley of sweet, spicy, and savory goodness!

Asian Jackfruit Bowl

This Sweet Spicy Asian Jackfruit Bowl inspired jackfruit, cooling cucumber, sweet mango, pops of edamame and a cute lil avocado rose! What more could you want?!

Ingredients
  

Bowl Ingredients

  • 1 can organic jackfruit drained
  • 1 cup fresh mango diced
  • ½ an avocado (for avocado rose)
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 1 cup jasmine rice
  • 1 cup edamame shelled
  • ¾ cup cucumber sliced

Jackfruit Marinade Ingredients

  • cup soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp tamari
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp coconut sugar
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp sambal oelek
  • 1 tbsp ginger grated

Instructions
 

  • Cook rice according to package directions
  • Chop veggies and put aside
  • FOR the jackfruit, combine all marinade ingredients into a bowl and whisk.
  • Once combined, drain and pull apart the jackfruit and add to the marinade. Add the jackfruit to a hot pan and saute till the marinade starts to caramelize slightly and remove from heat.
  • Assemble all ingredients into your bowl and drizzle with extra marinade if desired. Then get into itttt!!
